I. Introduction
What is this page about?
The good news of the gospel is available for everyone. As you read His Word and the information on this page, I pray you will be encouraged and draw closer to the Lord. Share your testamonies with me. They help us to grow in our faith when we hear miracles others have received.
Let me start with one of my testamonies:
Back in the early 70's when I was playing softball, I tore the anterior cruicate ligament in my knee. The x-ray showed a complete tear in half. I decided to do the physical therapy without any surgery. Years later when my knee was hurting again the arthroscopy showed a brand new ligament without any scar!! The Lord had totally replaced it and I have the tests to prove it! Praise God for His healing touch! This is a good example of how Jesus wants to make us new-- "not just patch us up".

Chicken Soup for the Soul honored me by selecting a picture of me at my last book signing holding up a copy of their two books that have my "Talking Potato" story, in their June (2016) exclusive monthly communique for their writers called, "the Inner Circle". They wrote, "Humor writer and Chicken Soup for the Soul contributor Linda Rose Etter (pictured right) held a book signing at the Sound of Light bookstore in Adrian, Michigan for Chicken Soup for the Soul: Living with Alzheimer's & Other Dementias and Chicken Soup for the Soul: For Mom, with Love. She also signed and sold copies of her own devotional books. We loved Linda's story about getting her mother with dementia to eat by serving her a 'talking' baked potato."
III. What I read daily for Devotion Time.
I read 1 chapter from the Old Testament, plus either 2 Psalms or 1 Psalm and 1 Proverb (then every 3 months you have totally read both books), plus 1 chapter from the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, in that order), plus 1 chapter from the New Testament and Isaiah 40:29-31 and Isaiah 41:8-13 (a couple of my favorite scriptures).
This way every day I am in the OT, NT, Psalms/Proverbs, Gospels and some of my favorite (verses) promises. I want to see what the Lord will show me from all over the Bible each day.
I also read five devotion books. Every year I decide which ones I will read that year. I recommend the following: "Our Daily Bread", "My Utmost For His Highest" by Oswald Chambers, "God Calling", "Smith Wigglesworth Devotional", "Mornings With The Holy Spirit" by Jennifer LeClaire and of course "Listen To HIS Heartbeat" and "Listen To HIS Heartbeat #2".
The commentary and reference books that I use the most are: "The MacArthur Bible Commentary" by John MacArthur, "The IVP Background Commentary:Old Testament" (and the "New Testament") by Walton, Matthews and Chavalas; "Where To Find It In The Bible" by Ken Anderson.
Teachers are notorious for giving homework. So...your homework is to read Psalm 91 and personalize it. Read it like the Lord is speaking it right to you. If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, the promises in the Bible are yours! Claim what the Lord has provided for you and walk in victory!
IV. Sample Devotion from "Listen To HIS Heartbeat" (book #1)
What Tangled Webs We Weave
The science class at the juvenile correction facility was
busy doing their worksheets when the door burst open
and in poured another class. The focus was on our invaders to
find out the purpose for their sudden arrival. Normal procedure
in a juvenile facility dictates that you stop, knock, and wait for
the teacher to grant permission to enter.
The outstretched hands of the lead guy were gently cradling
a precious cargo. Eleven guys surrounded my desk, as I looked
at a tightly tangled string around the ankle and toe of a young
bird. This little ankle was as small as a pencil lead.
The scissors were too large and clumsy. A plan was needed
to untangle this bird. The guys told their staff, “She is the science
teacher; she will know how to get it off.” Not knowing what
to do next, I silently prayed, “Lord, I don’t want to disappoint
these guys. They are doing something good. Please give me
wisdom, Lord.” By placing a probe gently between the string
and the tiny leg, I opened a pair of plastic safety scissors and
sawed through the string lying on top of this metal probe. He
was free and uninjured.
Oh, the smiles of rejoicing over our successful surgery! The
group soon left and released our feathered friend.
This was a reminder of how heaven rejoices when a sinner
gets saved (Luke 15:10). He knows when the sparrow falls
(Matthew 10:29). “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not
sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your
heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than
they” (Matthew 6:26)?
As happy as the boys were, it doesn’t compare with our
Father’s rejoicing when He sets someone free.
This memorable lesson illustrated that it was not by wisdom
or power, but by the Holy Spirit that the plan and freedom came.
We carry our burdens and oppressions around thinking
that with all of our wisdom and power, we will free ourselves.
Like the bird, the more we struggle, the more the web tightens
around us. These burdens and oppressions become more than
we can handle. It’s only when we stop struggling and place
ourselves in the Master’s hands that we receive victory and are
set free.
Dear Lord,
It isn’t your plan for me to carry burdens and become
oppressed or depressed. When I try to do things in my own
wisdom and strength, I am bound and trapped like the bird. May
your Word give me direction for each day. As I walk and talk with
you, I have victory. Thank you for setting me free to sour with you.
Amen
V. Plan of Salvation
When you believe that Jesus is the Son of God and want to be forgiven of your sins and become a Christian, please pray this prayer:
Dear Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God and part of the Trinity (Father God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit), and ask you to be my Lord and Savior. I ask you to forgive my sins and thank you for dying on the cross to pay for them for me. My desire is to serve you and be with you forever. Please teach me through your Word and by the Holy Spirit to be all that you desire. I want to daily fellowship with you and know you personally. Thank you for forgiving me and making me your child. Amen
